THE Woolmer Forest Heritage Society has received a £10,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to promote history in the town.

The funds, from the Lottery’s Sharing Heritage scheme, will fund the promotion of heritage in Whitehill and Bordon as the town is regenerated.

The scheme - called To Project Our Heritage into the Town’s Regeneration - will see the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society using the grant to employ a part-time heritage project officer.

The role will involve organising heritage days, workshops, training, visits and community events.

Heritage society chairman Chris Wain said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the society and our town to work with the developers as the town grows by 50 per cent over the next few years.

“This one-year project will ensure the rich heritage of the area is fully recognised and given prominence in the regeneration of the town and we can’t wait to choose the right person for the job.”

Stuart McLeod, head of the Heritage Lottery Fund for South East England, added: “Sharing Heritage is a wonderful opportunity for communities to delve into their local heritage and we are delighted to offer this grant so that To Project Our Heritage into the Town’s Regeneration can embark on a real journey of discovery.”
