The number of dental appointments in Hampshire provided through NHS contracts increased by 10 per cent in the last year, councillors have been told.

The rise in appointments was highlighted by NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board’s (ICB) director  primary and local care James Roach.

Mr Roach told members of Southampton City Council’s health overview and scrutiny panel there was a continued focus on extending dental access.

He said the ICB was saying improvements in access month on month across the county.

“The one change you will see this year and with the 10-year plan moving forward is there is a greater focus on also increasing access to urgent dental appointments as well,” Mr Roach said.

“I think that will be welcome.

“We have just gone through a process of procuring more dental capacity to support that need as well, so I think again that is a positive step for the community and something we will support moving forward.”
