THE FUTURE learning of our young citizens may, in many instances, be beyond repair.
Education of our young students has been impacted by closure of our schools and the need for electronic home-learning computers.
Many struggling families don’t have the computers available for all their children.
Parents’ computers are often unavailable for children as they are needed, for example, for their own home employment.
The trustees of the Penny Ha’penny Trust stepped up to the plate to help Haslemere Rotary in their financing the renovating of old unwanted laptops and chrome books.
Haslemere Rotary are organising the collection of the units and through donations are covering the cost of any parts that may be required.
To wipe and upgrade them in readiness for distribution by the schools, Disking Computers are providing all the labour and technical skills free of charge.
Haslemere Rotary Club president Mike O’Neil expressed his gratitude to the Penny Ha’penny Trust and Disking for their support.
He added: “This is something that could continue after Covid since there are new year groups which will continually need our help.”
Malcolm Carter, speaking for the trustees of The Haslemere Penny Ha’penny Trust, said he was pleased to support the project financially, as not only does it fit the trust’s charitable aims but it is “helping where it hurts” locally.
He continued: “It has been our privilege over the past five years to be able to make grants to very specific causes in the Haslemere area and our focus has been, show us a need and we will either help or know someone who can.
“We are delighted to be partners with Haslemere Rotary Club and thank them and Disking for doing all the hard work to make it work.
“To date Rotary has delivered a supply of 50 renovated laptops and chrome books to Woolmer Hill and Bohunt schools where home learning equipment is not readily available.”
The Surrey Community Foundation is also helping with funding for this project.
