NHS England has issued advice for patients ahead of the latest junior doctors’ strike tomorrow (Wednesday, February 10).
Members of the British Medical Council (BMA) will stage their second 24-hour walkout this year from 8am in a dispute over a new contract.
The action is expected to force the rescheduling of some elective operations and outpatient appointments. However, rather than an all out strike as originally threatened, emergency services will still be provided.
NHS England has offered patients the following advice:
• If you have a planned operation, procedure or outpatient appointment on this day your hospital will contact you if it needs to be rearranged.
• GP practices will be open and working as normal.
• If your condition is serious or life threatening, call 999 or go to accident and emergency.
• If you need medical help on this day but it is not serious or life threatening, contact your GP, visit your local pharmacist, call 111 or consult www.nhs.uk .
