Thirty volunteers planted 1,000 hedge plant whips along 253 yards of Basingstoke Road at Will Hall Meadow in Alton last Saturday morning.

Jenny Griffiths, chair of the Alton Climate Action Network, was the main organiser, along with Scott Goldie, who brought the hawthorn, hazel, rose, blackthorn and alder whips, and went back for more when they ran out.

Councillors Ginny Boxall and Steve Hunt joined in, and people brought spades from their homes nearby.

Volunteers are welcome on February 11, when the Will Hall hedge will be finished off, and on February 5 and 19, behind the Greenfields playground at the top of Northanger Close in Alton. All start at 10am – bring a spade.
