An HGV has overturned after striking the Wrecclesham railway bridge for the second time this year.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing the north-bound HGV hit the bridge’s protective boom and flipping over shortly after 6pm on Monday.

There were quickly reports online that other vehicles may have been involved in the collision – and the police confirmed in the early hours of Tuesday that a Nissan Qashqai had been crushed, but that its female driver had been safely extracted from the vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, said the police.

The Herald broke the news earlier on Monday evening that ‘no critical injuries’ had been reported as a result of the crash, after an air ambulanceuwas stood down.

The air ambulance is understood to have landed at Wrecclesham recreation ground shortly after the incident, and took off again at around 7.30pm.

Lee Moran, local roofing company owner and founder of the Farnham Rants Facebook group, sent in a series of aerial photos showing the scene in Wrecclesham at around 7.15pm on Monday.

The A325 Wrecclesham Road was still closed between the Coxbridge roundabout and the School Hill junctions as of around 12.30am, but the Herald is awaiting further updates from the police.

It is the latest in a long line of bridge strikes at Wrecclesham, and the second HGV this year to overturn after hitting the bridge.
