PUPILS at Oakmoor School in Bordon commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27.

Families sent in photos of candles lit in remembrance, and pupils Tegan Kinch, Harriet Thayre, Ruby Leigh Savin, Eden Lilywhite, Evie Murphy and Libby Brundson (pictured) created a dance.

The cookery club baked Jewish bread challah, Year 10 art pupils did Holocaust works in charcoal, and mentor groups made posters. Year 9 pupils looked at letters from French girl Louise Pikovsky, who died in Auschwitz aged 16.

Year 7 wrote stories on prejudice and how it can lead to a hateful act, Year 8 wrote poems on ‘Understanding’ and Year 9 argued the statement ‘We must always challenge discrimination where we see it’.

Head of humanities Anne Sutehall said: “How wonderful that so many pupils were involved and produced such thoughtful work.”
