A CENTRE helping students with special education needs and disabilities achieve social and economic independence has opened at the Alton campus of HSDC, formerly Alton College.

The first Independence Hub of a series planned and funded by Hampshire County Council will be fully operational in September 2022. It will provide high quality, specialised education for students aged over 16 with severe learning difficulties and complex needs to prepare them for adulthood by focusing on the essential skills needed for independent living, employment and good health.

HSDC principal Mike Gaston said: “We believe all young people deserve equal opportunities throughout their education and training in order to thrive.

“We are incredibly proud of our new Independence Hub and look forward to seeing the young people develop their independent life skills as they prepare for life beyond education.”
