SHE can’t tell anyone yet but Alton teenager Jasmine Hodge could be Britain’s next top model.

Jasmine, 18, entered a competition more than three months ago which is about to be shown on Sky television.

Throughout the 14 weeks filming of Britain’s Top Model Jasmine lived in a London house with the other contestants and they were set tasks such as how they would perform at a photoshoot or on the catwalk while wearing designer outfits.

They were also given a complete makeover to give them that professional model look, which for some girls was a shock as they would go in brunette and come out blonde or go in with long hair and emerge with a boyish crop.

The judges – models Abbey Clancy and Paul Sculfour, photographer Nicky Johnstone and fashion writer Hilary Alexander – monitored the contestants throughout the filming and later had interviews with each of the contestants.

She said the questions mainly concerned how they had approached each of the tasks they had been set and also why they wanted to be a model and how dedicated they were about achieving their ambition.

Jasmine, who is 5ft 11ins tall, said she had two ambitions when she was at Alton College, having first been a pupil at Eggar’s School, to either be a journalist or a model.

“I am passionate about being a model and when, a few years ago, I heard they were holding the Miss Hampshire beauty contest in Alton I thought I would apply. I was too young but I helped the organisers and learned a lot about the competition.

“So the following year I entered for it and at 16 I was the youngest contestant, and although I only came third I did win Miss Hampshire Eco and Miss Hampshire Photogenic and one of the prizes was to work with a photographer to get my own model portfolio,” said Jasmine.

Her success fuelled her ambition and she entered this year’s Britain’s Top Model contest but faced a dilemma.

“The day the filming was due to begin was the day I was supposed to start a journalism and media course at Southampton University, but I realised I wanted to do modelling and this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so I choose the contest.”

She admitted she was a little nervous meeting the other contestants, some of whom are already professional models with agents. She said: “I had no experience but they were all very friendly and there was a great atmosphere in the house.”

The photoshoots, although Jasmine isn’t allowed to say too much about them, ranged from filming in a scrapyard to nude scenes in a jungle in Jamaica. As a bonus, Jasmine was allowed to keep the clothes she modelled.

While at Alton College, Jasmine helped fellow students taking the photography course by modelling for them.

At the end of the contest a winner was chosen but until the final TV programme is screened Jasmine can’t say who it was. “It could be me!” she laughed.

Even if she isn’t named the winner, appearing on the programme could land her a job with a top model agency.

Abbey Clancy was a runner-up some years ago but was spotted by an agent who signed her up and she has gone on to become one of the country’s top models, as well as the wife of Premier League footballer Peter Crouch.

Jasmine is hoping she will have the same lucky break but if not she will be applying to Southampton University to take up her journalism course again in September.

Britain’s Top Model was due to be aired on Thursday on Lifetime TV.
