Love Haslemere Hate Waste hosted a successful repair cafe on November 5 – welcoming people and their broken items.

This month, repairer David Smith returned a hand-carved horse statue to its owner. The statue had been carved from one block of wood by friends of the owner some years ago.

The delicate statue had broken off at the hooves.

David constructed a “horse harness” and created a series of dowels out of toothpicks to tightly secure the main body of the horse to its feet. Using glue and filler, David carefully smoothed the joints and the horse statue now stands proud once again.

Other items received included a SMEG toaster with faulty heating elements, a smoothie maker with intermittent power, a Dyson vacuum cleaner which would not hold its charge, a set of digital weighing scales with a faulty display, and an apple press used by the COPSE orchard team.
