DAMP weather did not deter the many people seeking to repair broken and forlorn tools, toys, bicycles and other items at Haslemere’s first Repair Cafe event at HasleWorks community co-working space in the heart of the town.
Billed to coincide with the popular farmers’ market, a stream of objects otherwise destined for landfill were brought in, repaired and given a new lease of life.
Love Haslemere Hate Waste founder Victoria Page said: "I’ve been overwhelmed how many people turned up to have their items repaired and the talent of the repairers who know how to fix all these items.
"Our ministry of menders repaired lots of broken items ranging from scales and toasters to the more quirky items such as a Balinese parasol, a Polaroid camera and a wooden cheeseboard.
"We’ve extended the life of so many items already, saving people money in the process. This is just the beginning."
One of the repaired items was a turn-of-the-century ride-on red toy tractor.
It had been left to ruin, with peeling paint, and pedals that refused to turn.
After seven months of restoration, it has been brought back to its former glory and reunited with its owner.
