EAST Meon Arts is proud to present Jess Guise, the celebrated singer-songwriter and wife of local legend Frank Turner, who will be making her first appearance in the area with an eagerly anticipated concert of her trio Guise at All Saints Church in East Meon at 7.30pm on Sunday.

Guise are a confessional-folk-pop three-piece formed in 2015 by singer-songwriter Jessica Guise, bassist Titas Halder and vocalist Laura Hanna.

The trio are very much the voice and heart of Jess Guise, who has been writing and playing songs live since her teens. She has also appeared in the television series EastEnders in 1985 and The Musketeers in 2014.

Possessing a remarkable folk lilt and with influences coming from Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks and Dar Williams, she sings with delicacy while imparting vicious asides – by turns sweet and haunting.

Together with co-vocalist Laura Hanna, close harmonies and keys bring Jess’ songs to bloom, and they look forward to hearing their harmonies bounce off the old stone of the church.

After the success of their first EP, The Fun Part, in 2020, Guise will be releasing their first studio album at the end of April, just before coming to East Meon. Youngest Daughter will be released on Xtra Mile Recordings, and was produced by Jess’s husband Frank Turner.

It is through Frank that Jess is connected to East Meon, home to her mother-in-law Jane Cobley, a great supporter of East Meon Primary School.

Turner, a punk and folk singer-songwriter from nearby Meonstoke, spent much of his early life in and around the village.

In 2015 he returned to headline Meonfest, a music festival held on the Bereleigh estate on the edge of East Meon to raise money for the village school, after being booked by his mother.

The beautiful church reminds Jess of happy chocolate box days, weddings and Christmases.

Guise are donating their services in aid of the All Saints Church fund. The village car park will be available on the night and there will be a wine bar. Tickets cost £5 on the door, at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/296259639557, and at the East Meon village shop.
