THE judge sentencing the former boss of the Blackmoor Estate apple farm called for changes in the fruit-packing industry.
Justice Akenhead made a series of suggestions to prevent further deaths, which included the phasing out of hatches on the roofs of controlled-atmosphere units, which should be kept locked and have explicit signage warning of the danger of death.
The suggestions came as Andrew Stocker, 57, was jailed for two-and-a-half years after being found guilty of manslaughter after two workers died at the apple farm.
