BORDON’S popstar mum Kelly Peffers is due to release her second single this month - and she is hoping it may even be the UK’s number one Christmas song.

Written by Kelly, 28, and called Home, it tells of a lonely musician in a hotel room who decides to go to see his family but what follows is a tragic homecoming.

Perhaps this is not such a jolly theme for Christmas, but it is moving and will strike a chord for those missing their loved ones during the festive season.

It is a follow up to Kelly’s first single, released in the summer called I’m an Alien, and again it is song she had written herself.

A mum-of-three with a husband in the Royal Air Force, Kelly has been enjoying growing success in the musical world, and it is possible that one of her tunes will be used as the theme music for a forthcoming television series.

She has also been doing voiceovers for radio commercials and hopes to appear on the Open Mic UK music competition - two previous winners of which went on to appear on ITV’s X-Factor.

Kelly, who trained as a tattooist, is about to embark on a tour that could see her giving an open-air performance at Bordon’s Forest Shopping Centre.

What she is most thrilled about is her forthcoming tour around the UK, which will take her to her former school in Plymouth, where she grew up.

“I am honoured that Tor Bridge High has asked me to teach the students for three days (in October) about the music, radio and theatre industries,” she said, adding that she was also due to teach them master classes in singing and acting.

“I will have professionals from various music labels in London, script writers and actresses talking to the students over Skype, as well as musicians from around the area come and talk about the local music scene and how different the capital is to the South West music scene.”

While at her old school, Kelly will perform her latest single for the students on Thursday, some of whom will be performing with her.

“This performance of my new single will be kick starting my UK tour which finishes in December,” she said.

“Throughout my tour, I’m going to be doing a lot of charity work, which includes me jumping out of a plane on October 31 dressed as a witch for Asthma UK, and I admit I am terrified.”

She will also take part in the Santa Fun Run in London on December 6, dressed as Father Christmas, for the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

She is also helping with the preparations for the Christmas pantomime at Bordon’s Phoenix Theatre.

It was Kelly’s music teacher at the school who discovered she had a voice when she was just 14 and later she began performing in local venues.

But she put her performing on hold for a while when, after marriage to husband Craig, she had two children.

It was after her third child was born, that Kelly began getting bookings to sing in London and the chance to work with record producer Ross Mackenzie.

She got a call to do an audition for X-Factor but her backing group left just before she was due to go on.

Determined never to let that happen again, Kelly taught herself to play the guitar and ukulele and so that she could accompany herself while performing.

She has made appearances at the Jamm in Brixton; has supported Steve Craddock (of Ocean Colour Scene) and Brit Award-winning electro duo Basement Jaxx, and has been a regular on Radio Chat and Spin. As a result, she got a contract with London recording and production company Downtown Artists.

In the summer Kelly reached the final auditions of BBC1’s The Voice music talent show. “But they told me, because I was already a professional singer and had a certain style they couldn’t improve on that so I didn’t get any further.”

Kelly has given herself until the age of 30 to get to the top in showbusinesses, and with her energy and drive there is a very good chance she can make it.
