EAST Hampshire District Council confirmed this week that only a predicted 2,725 homes will be built by 2028 as part of the Whitehill and Bordon eco-town project.

This comes amid the ongoing examination into the East Hampshire District Local Plan: Joint Core Strategy, which last week saw a Government planning inspector consider issues surrounding the town's development.

A district council spokesman said: "In the original forecast there were going to be more homes built per year over the lifetime of the Joint Core Strategy but, because of the economic climate, it is anticipated that there will be fewer homes built per year."
