A LORRY has overturned after hitting the A325 Wrecclesham Road railway bridge.

Police were called to the incident at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (December 5) night.

The force’s traffic unit later tweeted: “We are dealing with a incident on the A325 Wrecclesham Road in Farnham.

“The driver of this HGV has failed to take note of the numerous height warning signs and has collided with the bridge.

“Recovery are on scene and we hope to have it clear before the morning rush hour.”

Responding, one Twitter user said: “This bridge is genuinely a tragedy waiting to happen. It’s so lucky that this didn’t happen whilst children were walking to Weydon School.”

Another wrote: “How many times have you been called out to lorries under that bridge over the last few years?!”

Recovery specialists JD Motors have worked overnight to remove the stricken lorry, and tweeted that it should be gone by 7am on Thursday.

It said: “Casualty vehicle is now upright, we just need to stow away all equipment and set up for towing, should be clear by 7AM #wrecclesham.”

The police responded from its @SurreyRoadCops account: “Great work by @JDmotorservices means hopefully the road will be fully reopen soon.”
