POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 29-year-old man from Romania died when the Jeep he was travelling in hit a tree in Hollywater Road.

Officers were called to the scene at 7.31am on November 6, following a report of a Jeep Grand Cherokee hitting a tree near Passfield.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 22-year-old man from Poland, was transported to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guilford with minor injuries. He is assisting police with enquiries and was this week interviewed under caution.

The 4x4 vehicle was travelling east on Hollywater Road, heading towards the B3004. The collision happened near the junction of Lynchborough Road.

Surrey Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Fire and Rescue services rushed to the scene with the South Central Ambulance Service.

“We are appealing for witnesses in relation to this incident,” police senior investigating officer Sgt Gabe Snuggs said. “We are particlarly looking to speak with the driver of a black car that we believe was travelling in the opposite direction towards Liphook Road at around the time the collision occurred.

“Were you travelling west on the Hollywater Road that morning at around 7.25am? Do you drive a black car? Please call 101 and quote reference 44150386099.”
