THE sun and the crowds turned out on Saturday to support Selborne Primary School’s May fair, which raised a whopping £2,800 for school funds.

The procession left The Selborne Arms pub led by Gilbert White-lookalike Ronnie Davidson-Houston and the May King and Queen – Ludovic, resplendent in red coat and golden crown, and Molly, in a gorgeous cream dress – and made its way along the High Street, down Gracious Street, and onto the school field where the fair was opened by the modern day Gilbert White.

There was something for everyone at the fair, from the traditional coconut shy and smash-the-crockery stall to Lego races and crazy croquet.

The wheelbarrow of wine raffle was extremely popular, as was the tombola stall. And the children loved throwing wet sponges at their friends, which proved a great way to cool down in the warm, sunny weather.

The event was organised by The Friends of Selborne School and a spokesman said: “Once again everyone worked very hard to make the fair a success and it was great to see visitors from as far afield as Petersfield and Portsmouth.”

FOSS expressed a “special thank you” to those ladies who helped out all day and then went on to do the Moonwalk in London in the fight against breast cancer. “This really was a fantastic effort!” said the spokesman.

While FOSS has recently bought new laptops for the school, the money raised from the May fair will be used to improve the outside learning environment.
