The equivalent of one in every 17 Petersfield residents has now signed a petition calling for urgent safety improvements to be made at a ‘deadly’ junction.
By midday on Tuesday exactly 900 people had signed the www.change.org petition launched by Charlie Hawkes calling on EHDC (HCC) to Improve Safety at the Pulens Lane crossroads.
The Post launched a ‘Get On With It’ campaign last week to bring forward work at the junction as Hampshire County Council has a fully costed scheme that’s ready to go.
Work will take place sometime this year but many want it brought forward given the alarming rate of accidents at the crossroads, with children involved in the latest smash.

It seems the campaign has cross-party support with Dominic Martin, Liberal Democrat hopeful for East Hampshire, and Cllr Nick Drew, who is campaigning for the Petersfield Hangers seat at the forthcoming local elections, sharing the same sentiments.
“This isn’t a party politics issue, it’s a public safety issue,” said Mr Martin, adding: “It’s important for authorities to listen to these voices”.
“We’ve done all the work and it ticks all the boxes – we’ve made it clear that work needs to be done,” said Cllr Drew.

Damian Hinds MP has also confirmed he has written to Tim Lawton, Executive Director of Hampshire Highways, in calling for the scheme to be moved forward, if possible.
And our campaign has also given a recruitment boost to a group which aims to put the brakes on speeding drivers on Pulens Lane and other hotspots.
Five people who joined our March 7 photocall also agreed to join Speedwatch, as the group were coincidentally in the area to carry out speed checks.
If anyone is interested in joining Speedwatch and their ongoing bid to reduce speeding around the town, email [email protected]
