MORE than 200 years ago, the medieval Knights Templar, who had a preceptory just outside Selborne, captured the imagination of village curate and writer Gilbert White, who headed over to Temple Manor to investigate further.

Apart from names, the only evidence remaining of the presence of the Templars are two coffin lids in St Mary’s Church.
