CHILDREN in Bordon are being offered a new way to get active this summer, thanks to a partnership between a Vitality Netball Superleague team and a leisure provider.

Mill Chase Leisure Centre has been selected as one of the first sites to host Hertfordshire Mavericks netball camps, which have been launched in partnership with Everyone Active.

Through the partnership, the two organisations aim to get an additional 20,000 girls and women taking part in netball-related activity over the next three years. The camps will introduce young people to the game at fun and friendly sessions, which are designed to suit all abilities and provide opportunities for those with flair to develop and progress.

Mill Chase Leisure Centre has been selected by Everyone Active to host one of the first netball camps. The three-day camp will run from Tuesday, August 29, to Thursday, August 31, for children age nine to 13.

Everyone Active contract manager David Love said: “Studies show that two million fewer women than men are regularly playing sport and, although netball can be enjoyed by both boys and girls, we hope that by making the sport more widely available, we can help to close this gap.”

Mavericks’ player and ambassador for the partnership Ashleigh Neal said: “The brilliant facilities it has across the UK means there is scope to get women all over the country benefitting from the programme.”
