HEADLEY Bowling Club celebrated Easter Sunday with the opening of the green for the new season.
The day was extra special for the club’s newly-elected captains. Club captain Tony Wareham and ladies’ captain Pat Clifford proudly delivered the first bowls of the year.
This was followed by the traditional spider in which all the 40 members present, arranged around the green, bowled to a centre target - the spider.
The bowler who got the nearest this year was Ann Rawlinson who received a large Easter egg presented by the new club captain.
The rest of the members were not forgotten, each receiving their own smaller egg from the club.
The members then took part in a session of bowls before rounding off proceedings in the pavilion with cake baked for the occasion.
Captain Mr Wareham said that it had been “a wonderful afternoon”, with all present looking forward to the season ahead.
He was optimistic for the season because, he said, the club has a full programme of friendly and competitive bowling and membership was buoyant.
Both he and ladies’ captain Ms Clifford agreed they were looking forward to their period of office.
The club, which is based at the Headley Pavilion on Mill Lane, faced Alton Social in its first match of the season.
