The opening of a new shop is set to kick-flip Bordon’s growing reputation as a hub for skaters and BMX bikers.

The town is becoming a hotspot for skaters in East Hampshire and West Surrey, with its skate park and events like Skate Jam putting it on the map for young people keen to learn tricks and take up a new hobby.

Capitalising on this momentum is Phil Hope, the owner of Kibo, a new BMX and skate shop based at The Shed in Bordon.

Mr Hope was one of three directors involved in the former Cycle Sphere, which also operated from The Shed. His new venture, however, is one he is taking on by himself.

Alongside the retail offering, the East Hampshire bike rental scheme will also continue from the site, ensuring cycling remains accessible to the wider community.

Mr Hope said:“Kibo was born from a lifetime passion for alternative sports and culture, whether it be BMX, skating, scooters or mountain biking.

“The vision is to have an inclusive and exciting space to share everything from the world of extreme sports.

“My 25 years experience custom building and maintaining bikes will hopefully help in Kibo’s journey.

“Bordon is an ideal location to launch - a vibrant new green town regeneration project with a growing population of new families.”

He cited amenities such as the Budds Lane skatepark, and the walking and cycling ‘green loop’.

Since opening, Kibo has quickly become a popular stop for children in the town.

Mr Hope added: “It is great to see the kids staying out of trouble and finding a hobby like this. We want to create a positive culture in Bordon where kids and families cycle.”

With the town’s facilities already drawing interest, the arrival of Kibo looks set to push Bordon’s skate and BMX culture to new heights.
