TOWN councillors will recognise local heroes in its 2018 Voluntary Contribution to the Community Awards.

Whitehill mayor Colin Leach explained the upcoming ceremony on April 25.

“Whitehill and Bordon is a thriving community,” he said.

“Since being elected mayor in May (2017), I have visited many organisations and, although these organisations differ greatly in terms of the services they provide, they all have one thing in common - they are dedicated to improving the wellbeing of people in our community.

“Many organisations rely on volunteers and Whitehill Town Council wants to recognise the important role they play.”

Nominations for the under-18 and over-18 categories can be made online at www.whitehilltown

council.gov.uk or by filling out a form at the Forest Community Centre, in Pinehill Road, near the Forest Shopping Centre.

Nominations are open until March 31.

Winners will be announced at the annual town meeting at The Phoenix Theatre on April 25, from 7pm.

All residents are invited to attend the meeting which will have a heritage theme.

The Woolmer Forest Heritage Society will give a presentation on the town’s history; the 2015 Bordon Reflections project (which collated the town’s memories) will be on display, and the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company will explain how the town’s heritage will be incorporated into the new town centre.
