WHITEHILL Town Council has objected to Lidl's plans to regrade its car park.

The application proposes a regrading of the car park to ensure that gradients are reduced to two per cent or less.

This is in a bid "to improve the shopping experience" and reduce incidents in which trolleys cause damage to vehicles.

They also seek to install retaining walls and draining works linked to the project.

At the town council's meeting last Monday, councillors voted to object to the scheme because it would mean the loss of trees, as well as the reduction of disabled and parent-and-child spaces. There were also worries that the proposed steps would make wheelchair access difficult.

Councillors felt that the walls would be "detrimental to street scene" and would amount to the "unnecessary urbanisation" of the area.

The application is available at East Hampshire District Council's website.
