PAINTED Lady butterflies have been seen in profusion at Quebec Park in Whitehill and Bordon, near Cafe 1759.

Ecologist Councillor Adam Carew recorded ten butterflies feeding on dwarf buddlia.

He said: “I am thrilled to see this rare butterfly visitor alive and well and feeding on Buddlea at Quebec Park.

“Painted Ladies are rare visitors to our shores but have been recorded widely across southern Britain this year, and could have flown literally hundreds of miles to get here.

“We are rightly very proud of our wildlife here in Whitehill and Bordon and when numbers of butterflies and moths have been plummeting in recent years, it is gratifying to see such a beautiful butterfly here in our new award-winning housing development.”
