Motorists travelling between Alton and Bordon will get a case of deja-vu next week as part of the B3004 will be closed for most of the month.

The temporary closure of the Lode Farm section between East Worldham and the Oakhanger Road junction west of Kingsley will not affect rush hour or weekend traffic.

But Green Street will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm every weekday from next Monday (August 4) to the last Friday of the month.

Hampshire County Council needs to carry out essential strengthening and safety works on two adjacent bridges as silt deposits have built-up inside a culvert and drainage pipes need clearing.

The culvert will also be strengthened with a high-density plastic pipe being inserted while an adjacent bridge parapet will also be repaired.

The bridges are a few hundred yards west of the Church of St Nicholas junction with the road remaining accessible from East Worldham to a point past Oaklands Farm.

The council was due to start work earlier but agreed to delay the project for a week because it would severely restrict access to the Jalsa Salana site.

B3004 Diversion Map
The diversion route is a long one, and will take traffic to afar as West Meon. (Hampshire County Council)

A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the works with traffic being officially re-routed via Alton, the A32, A272, A3 and A325.

A spokesperson for HCC said: “The route has been selected to avoid roads with height, width, or weight restrictions, such as low bridges and narrow residential streets, which are unsuitable for larger vehicles.

“Arrangements have been made with Stagecoach to provide a shuttle service for the route 13 bus service over the period of the road closure.”

The previous closure of the B3004 will be fresh in the memory for many local residents as SSEN cabling work between Alton and beyond Lindford went on for several months from late 2023.
