AS London’s Mall came alive with flag-waving well wishers celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday on Saturday, people closer to home organised their own parties.

Celebrations held at Headley village green on Saturday went “very well” according to organisers, with stalls and attractions which included a Rolls Royce built in the same year the Queen was born.

“Music from over past decades and live music from Good Times Roll brought memories flooding back for many,” said John Burton, one of the organisers.

“The hog roast produced almost 200 servings from pigs that had been fed on a beer diet. Numerous prizes were snapped up in the raffle, and the photo booth provided an ideal opportunity for people to have their photo taken alongside the Queen. The birthday-cake competition and queens-and-kings competition produced worthy winners.

“This was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion which generated some £500 towards a defibrillator for the community.”

On June 10, pupils at Bordon infant and junior schools enjoyed a picnic lunch, on the infant school’s field, to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

Infant school headteacher Matt Greenhalgh said the celebration had been “fantastic” and had been a brilliant way to bring together different age groups.

“The children had a great day celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday,” he added.

“The children spent the first part of the morning learning all about the Queen and the work she does and then parents came along to help get ready for the picnic.

“The children and the parents made crowns, flags and birthday cards as well as each decorating their own biscuit to take out with them for the lunch.”
