LUDSHOTT Photographic Club held its first print competition of the year when members submitted their prized images for the generous but critical examination of the judge for the evening – Rosemary Wilman, of Epsom Camera Club.
Rosemary brings a huge amount of experience to any photographic competition, as she is currently the chairman of Surrey Photographic Association’s judges and lecturers committee and a past-president of the Royal Photographic Society.
Judging was in three classes, with only the best achieving a maximum score of 10. Robert Cole’s image entitled Cruising Past the Glacier gained top marks, as did his Yukon River Rapids both taken on a Canadian cruise.
Not to be outdone, partner Davida Cole was awarded 9.5 for her Freddie Mercury Sand Sculpture.
Winner in the intermediate class was new member Andy Mayson for his African Darter, a portrait of the legendary Snakebird. Cindy Huntingford also got a well-earned 10 for Art Exhibition this Way, a predominantly monochrome image, with just a spot of red.
There was strong competition in the advanced class, with top honours going to Bee on Cosmos by Brian Bond. Paul Crook gained the top mark for Midhurst Before The Storm and a pair of nature shots gained John Wichall a double-top for Evening Short-Eared Owl and At the Rut.
In addition, the second Jim Henson Audio Visual competition took place and all 17 AV show entries were well-received. There was a mixture of documentaries, humorous stories and photo harmony, with judge Gerald Kitiyakara commenting fully on each sequence.
The trophy went to Ludshott’s Brian Marjoram for his entry Haunted Houses. Norman Horsham’s Three Scottish Border Churches by Mid-Thames’ Norman Horsham was in second place and in third came The Perfect Husband by Chichester’s Graham Sergeant.
The View by Ludshott’s Kathleen Bird, Top Gear by Graham Sergeant and Purple Rain by Mid-Thames’ Roger McCallum were all highly commended.
* Ludshott Photographic Club, which draws its members from Liphook, Headley, Grayshott, Haslemere, Bordon and the surrounding area, welcomes new members.
