A HIGHLY topical appeal for readers’ help today from Jane Hurst of Alton Museum to identify the event shown in these two photographs of what appears to be a nursing parade in the town.
“It looks too nice and not crowded enough to be Remembrance Day,” writes Jane. “Possibly Hospital Sunday – but I would not have thought the other groups would have been there.”
The photographs are by Edwin Plomer, who was in Alton between 1936 and around 1965, so Jane wonders if they could be wartime, VE Day or even as late as the coronation in 1953.
If you know, please do get in touch, either with Jane direct or through Peeps by emailing [email protected]
With regard to VE Day and the upcoming anniversary in May, the Herald is planning some special coverage so if you have photographs of the events that took place on that momentous day in 1945, we’d love to see them and feature them here.
