Cars have made way for companionship and care as a new chapter has begun on an historic site in Elstead.
Viewings are now being accepted at Wey Meadows Care Home with the 60-bedroom facility set to open in winter.
Families, health and care professionals and local residents can book private tours of the development on Weyburn Lane by appointment through CHD Living.
Many villagers will associate the site with Weyburn Engineering Works which began life in 1913 as a motor car repair workshop.
It later became a major local employer and a well-known name in precision engineering, with its components being used cars, marine engines, aircraft and military vehicles.
The works also became part of the social fabric of Elstead, with generations of local people connected to the site through work, family and community life.
Now the focus is on care, recovery, companionship and wellbeing with its replacement care home nearing completion. The interior boasts ensuite bedrooms, shared lounges and areas for rest, recovery and everyday activity while its stunning gardens have been designed by the Hampshire-based landscaper Suzanne Boswell.
“The home will also use thoughtful technology to support safety and independence,” said a spokesperson.
“Examples include Nobi Smart Lamps, which can help detect falls and provide the care team with additional insight when a resident’s needs change.”
The team is also building local links before the first residents move in with Wey Meadows forging links with the Farnham Lions. Bosses want Wey Meadows to become an active part of local life, rather than just another home.
“When people visit Wey Meadows, I want them to feel the warmth of the home straight away,’ said home manager, Sebastian Wiencelewski.
“For me, good care starts with knowing people as individuals. Their routines, their families, what helps them feel settled, what they enjoy, and the small things that make each day feel familiar.”
“Elstead has such a strong sense of community, and we want Wey Meadows to become part of that. I am looking forward to welcoming people in, building local relationships and creating a home where residents feel known, supported and connected.”
CHD Living is a family owned and operated care provider that has been supporting people across Surrey and South London for more than 40 years. Wey Meadows will also host a series of drop-in events and community activities before its official launch.
