Whitehill & Bordon is getting a classy addition as plans for a new primary school have been rubber stamped.

Hampshire County Council has approved proposals for a new school on vacant land between the leisure centre, Havannah Way and Prince Philip Park.

The school will provide up to 430 places and will include specialist facilities for children with special educational needs.

Around £18million has been reportedly budgeted for the school, which will likely be run by an academy trust.

Members of the council’s Regulatory Committee approved a planning application for the development, which will help meet a growing demand for school places in the town. Juliet Henderson, HCC Executive Member for Education, said it’s important for local infrastructure to grow as Whitehill & Bordon expands.

She said: “This new school will provide high-quality facilities for local children.

“It will also support families moving into the area and help make sure that young people can access the support they need within their community.”

She added: “The school has been designed to provide a high-quality learning environment that is fit for the future.

“It will serve local children, families and the wider community for years to come.”

The school will be built to “high environmental standards” and will include features like natural ventilation, solar panels and ground source heat pump technology.

The school designed by HCC’s in-house Property Services team will include modern teaching facilities like a music and drama studio, library and learning resource centre.

There will also be dedicated outdoor learning and play areas, a full-size sports pitch and secure cycle and scooter parking to encourage sustainable travel.

While the school is expected to open for the start of the 2029/30 academic year, HCC will keep the timescale under review to ensure its opening is aligned to local demand.
