WHITEHILL Town Council is considering a public walk along the new relief road when it is finished.

This would be a way of commemorating the new infrastructure with a community event.

The idea was proposed by town councillor Chris Mitchell and would see people invited to walk the full length of the relief road, which links Bordon and Whitehill, just before it is opened for traffic.

At last Monday’s full town council meeting, members agreed to investigate the cost and practicalities of such a day.

The new road is currently under construction and is designed to take traffic from the A325 and divert it around the proposed new town centre.

This is intended to reduce east-west severance and create a shared space for all road users.

The new road also provides access to the redeveloped Louisburg Barracks.

The relief road is due to be completed next summer.
