A large-scale car ‘meet’ in the Bedford Road area of Petersfield turned ugly on coronation day, with police having to be called in to shut it down.
Police response officers, along with other specialised police units, responded to the call at around 11.10pm on the night of Saturday, May 6.
According to the East Hampshire police team, more than 300 cars were in attendance, causing significant disruption to the area.
The police also received several reports of anti-social driving in and around Petersfield railway station and the surrounding areas.
And during the operation, a police car was damaged by some individuals who pulled off its front grill and damaged the blue lights.
After the Petersfield meet was broken up, police say the group then moved on to Morrisons at Horndean, where more reports of similar behaviour were received.
Officers are now urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to call 101, quoting the reference number 44230178548.
Car meets themselves are not illegal in the UK, but the behaviour associated with some meets, such as street racing, dangerous driving and antisocial behaviour, can be illegal and lead to criminal charges. In general, car meets are allowed as long as they do not cause a disturbance or break the law.
