POLICE have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to identify after an assault in Alton on Saturday night.

The incident happened just after 11pm when a man was assaulted as he walked across the road by Market Square. He was hit in the face and knocked unconscious.

Officers have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with this incident and he has been released under investigation.

However, investigators are still appealing for information to help identify the man in the CCTV footage.

He is described as white, of skinny build, wearing a dark tracksuit with GK written on the front, and a green gillet jacket.

Police staff investigator Michael Longmore said: “The 47-year-old victim was assaulted in an unprovoked attack while out in Market Square. This happened outside a busy pub. Did you see what happened? Do you know the man in the CCTVpicture?”
