A REVIEW of policing in England and Wales, which recommends radical reforms - including scrapping police and crime commissioners - has struck local nerves with its focus on "neighbourhood poli-cing".
The report, by the Independent Commission on the Future of Policing which is headed by Lord (John Arthur) Stevens – outlines 37 recommendations that would ensure police forces would "contribute to the creation of a safer, more cohesive and more just society".
Key issues discussed in the document, published on Monday, include: criticisms of PCCs, describing the scheme as a "failed experiment"; the "threat to neighbourhood policing", and the "danger of retreating to reactive crime control" as a consequence of cuts.
