THE chief executive of the Post Office joined Headley parish councillor Rita Subbings and others to inspect Headley Down’s new mobile post office.

Paula Vennells said she was delighted to see the return of the service to Headley Down.

Headley Parish Council played an active role in lobbying the Post Office to make Headley Down a priority since the closure of the Alfred Whittle & Sons store, which offered postal services, in 2015.

Finding alternative premises for a post office in Headley Down seemed unlikely so, in January, the parish council surveyed residents to find out if a community post office would be used and what post office services were important to residents.

With a mandate from residents to lobby the Post Office to see a service return to the parish, the council worked with the Post Office to look at different options.

The sub postmaster at Grayshott post office, Michelle Reidy, offered to provide an extended service to Headley Down among other areas.

The mobile post office is parked outside the One Stop shop, in Birch Road, on Tuesdays from 9am to noon, and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Dennis Tregay, chairman of Headley Parish Council, said: “The parish council is thrilled to see a post-office service return to Headley Down and I would urge residents to use it.”
