RAM-RAIDERS botched attacks on two targets on Saturday.

The bungling burglars used a silver 4x4 to smash into a storeroom wall at Bucks Horn Oak service station, opposite Alice Holt Forest on the A325 Bordon Road, between 3.30am and 4am but were unable to rip out the safe and left empty- handed.

They then headed down the A325 towards Bordon and at 4am residents were woken when the same vehicle smashed into the Liphook Co-op in Headley Road. The criminals tried to get into its Post Office section, causing severe damage.

They got out of the car and went into the building but again sped off empty- handed because the wall they hit collapsed on to the safe and buried it.

They were caught on CCTV driving along Headley Road towards Bordon and police found an abandoned Mitsubishi 4x4 thought to have been used in both crimes in woods at Longmoor Army Camp on Monday.

A Post Office spokesperson confirmed there was an attempted robbery at Liphook Post Office on August 19 and added: “The people who run our Post Office branches provide important services to local communities and any robbery or attempted robbery is very traumatic for those involved. We will be supporting the police in their efforts to apprehend those responsible.”

A spokesperson for Southern Co-op said: “The incident in Liphook is currently being investigated by police, so we’re unable to comment on the details.

“We can confirm that the site has a manned security presence until repairs are complete. The security and safety of our customers and colleagues remains paramount at all times.”

According to an anonymous Headley Road resident, the burglars made three attempts to break down the wall at the Co-op.

Builders arrived at the building on Monday to carry out temporary repairs.

It is anticipated that the branch will be out of action for approximately three weeks and customers are advised to use Grayshott, Lindford or Bordon Post Offices.

Alton’s Aldi in Mill Lane was targeted between 1am and 1.15am on Sunday (20), in a ram-raid involving a silver estate car and a Land Rover Defender, which was found abandoned. Again, offenders caused damage but left empty-handed.
