A RECORD number of struggling families are turning to foodbanks for help according to research released this week.

A document published by charity The Trussell Trust, released on Sunday, reports that low income and welfare problems have seen foodbank use rise significantly despite economic recovery, with almost 500,000 people helped in the past six months.

And local usage is roughly in line with the national picture, with a steady increase in demand compared with the summer months.
