THE WHITEHILL & Bordon Regeneration Company and Taylor Wimpey received a top accolade at the prestigious Planning Awards 2020, for the delivery of new housing at Prince Philip Park.

At the awards, which are the Oscars of the industry and took place at a virtual ceremony, the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company and Taylor Wimpey scooped the prize for Prince Philip Park in the Best Housing Scheme (500 homes or more) category.

The judges said they were impressed with the level of community involvement in the scheme, with a community trust set up to ensure that local people influence the decision-making.

The Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, a joint venture between Dorchester Regeneration and Taylor Wimpey, began the redevelopment of the 200-hectare former Prince Philip Park Barracks in Whitehill & Bordon in 2015.

The site is being transformed into a 2,400 home community with educational, leisure and health facilities, employment opportunities, new infrastructure, and large areas of green, open space, including woodland and health land.

Overall, 26 winners were announced recognising the year’s best achievements in planning and placemaking.

James Child, project lead, Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, said: “We are delighted to win this accolade. The Whitehill & Bordon community are at the heart of our decision making and we strive to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the new town. So it is great to see the judges highlight the community’s involvement in the regeneration project.

“Sustainable housing is being built across the town for private sale and affordable housing, including social rent and shared ownership. Rentplus, offering rent-to-buy affordable homes, will soon be available at Dukes Quarter and helps people to take the first step into home ownership.”

Mary O’Brien, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey South Thames, added: “We are incredibly proud to play a part in developing an exciting new community at Prince Philip Park and it’s fantastic to see the development win this award.”
