THE annual Kingsley summer fete has been dubbed the best yet, with organisers keen to make it a regular event in the village calendar.
The fete, held on Sunday at the Kingsley United Sports Club on Sickles Lane, saw traditional stalls, the popular grand raffle, as well as a barbecue, an all-day bar, and a dog show.
Wayne Moulds, from the fete committee, said that although an exact figure was yet to be collated, the event raised "in the region of £2,000", which will go toward ongoing work at the sports club.
He said that with hundreds in attendance, this year's fete was a far cry from last year's which, having been postponed twice due to poor weather, saw "app-alling" attendance.
"It made us question whether we should put ourselves through it all again," he said. "This year was a real tester for us."
But he said a village fete was a "great British tradition" and, spurred on by the weekend, he was already looking forward to 2014."
