AIR Cadet Warrant Officer Sarah Cameron, from Bordon, has been appointed a Lord Lieutenant Cadet.
Ms Cameron, 19, a member of 2412 Bordon and District Squadron Air Training Corps, which meets at Bordon’s Wolfe Lodge, was presented with her award by The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Nigel Atkinson.
He also presented awards and medals to members of the South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, as well as appointing his five new Lord Lieutenant Cadets for 2015-2016.
At a ceremony at Winchester Guildhall at the end of September , and in front of family, friends, VIPs, and senior military personnel, Mr Atkinson, the Queen’s representative in Hampshire, congratulated all those who had received their awards.
He welcomed his newly appointed Lord Lieutenant Cadets, who will accompany him on his official visits throughout the year in Hampshire.
During the evening, the chief executive of the South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, Patrick Crowley, who sponsored the evening, presented an overview of the association’s work in the community, including supporting ex members of the Armed Forces and their families, and explaining how key the Reserve Forces and Cadets are to the community.
Ms Cameron, who has just started to study biomedical sciences at the University of Surrey, is hoping to join the Royal Air Force as a medical officer later in her career.
After the ceremony, she said: “It is a fantastic achievement and a brilliant way to end my career as a cadet. It feels such an amazing reward for all the time and dedication I have given my squadron and wing and I feel so honoured to be chosen.”
Ms Cameron joined the air cadets in 2009 after Air Training Corps representatives visited her school to make a presentation. “It looked like fun so I joined.”
She has never looked back and Ms Cameron, who this summer represented the Air Training Corps on an exchange trip to Canada, has achieved so much during her six years.
“I am looking forward to an amazing year and supporting the Lord Lieutenant on as many of his engagements as possible,” she said.
Lord Lieutenant Cadets are appointed to serve as mark of achievement of outstanding service by an individual to their Cadet organisation and this is recognised by the appointment as a Lord Lieutenant Cadet.
Each year, the Lord Lieutenant appoints a Cadet from each of the community Cadet forces and a Cadet from the Combined Cadet Force for support on official engagements.
