HOLME Primary School in Headley invited parents to see improvements to its outdoor area for younger pupils.

In recent months, the school has raised funds and harnessed parent support to renew the area, with the aim of enhancing learning opportunities for children in the early-years foundation stage (those up to age five including in reception).

Susan Fox, early-years-foundation-stage leader, had created a plan of her vision, but the school lacked both the funds and the manpower to make the plan a reality.

But parents, staff and members of the community stepped in. In the school grounds volunteers made a start on the improvements, with staff and parents painting, digging, weeding and constructing a tyre trail, a reading area and a mud kitchen.

Last term the school took part in a crowdfunding competition and it received help from the school parent teacher association and a donation from Jackie and Julian Taylor-Green, from the Spar store in Lindford.

This allowed further resources to be purchased, floor markings to be painted and a stage to be erected.

With the improvements in place, children can extend their reading, writing and maths skills outside, and play with each other in a creative and stimulating environment, the school said.
