WHEN the snow came, Hampshire County Council was quick to respond.

Bordon residents woke to a snow-covered town on Sunday morning. Luckily, traffic was light and the snow and freezing temperatures were a good reason to stay indoors.

But thanks to a round-the-clock operation by a county council highways workforce gritting the roads, the main A325 stayed open.

Gritters had also been along some of the minor roads to clear the snow and ice, although pedestrians had to take care walking the pavements, which had around three inches of snow.

For youngsters it was a chance to have their first snowball fight of the winter.
