ANYONE interested in meeting new people and experiencing a different culture should investigate joining the Headley Twinning Association.
Group members will be travelling to France, later this month, to celebrate their jumelage (twinning) relationship with their sister town of Corne .
A coach will leave Headley on Friday, May 26, and a daytime sailing has been arranged from Portsmouth to Caen.
There will then be an onward journey to Corne - a little town about 20 minutes from Angers on the western Loire.
Staying with French families, a full programme of activities has been arranged.
The group will be travelling back to Headley on the following Tuesday.
“These weekends are always extremely rewarding,” said Headley’s Twinning chairman Clive Harrod. “Speaking French obviously helps but communication is very easy without. The families who host are always very friendly and hospitable.
“This year marks our 28th anniversary and it would be lovely to see as many people be part of the celebrations. The cost of the visit is very reasonable as it just includes the coach and ferry.
“Accommodation and food will be provided. We also fund raise during the year to make the journey over to France as comfortable as possible.”
The Headley Twinning Association hosted a quiz night on Saturday, April 8, when 88 people filled the village hall for an evening of general knowledge.
The evening saw 10 rounds of quizzes, covering various subjects, and several picture rounds.
The quizmaster was Jim Mansell who “hosted the event wonderfully”, Mr Harrod said. “It was great to see so many people support the evening,” Mr Harrod added.
“It was well attended and, apart from having a wonderful evening, we could raise funds for the association.”
