WHITEHILL and Bordon Regeneration Company has said it has concerns over traffic in Hogmoor Road in its sights.
Residents have banded together to highlight the “dangers” of roadside parking which, they say, have been worsened by the opening, for public use, of Hogmoor Inclosure play area .
Lin Bateson, who lives in the area, said: “Parking around the northernmost access to Hogmoor is becoming a hazard.
“It’s under a blind rise in a 40mph zone – but a few people are parking with part or all of their car in the road, and loading or unloading children and pets with traffic zipping past.”
Residents say they presented the results of an online poll to the regeneration company in early August 2017 but it has not yet responded.
They continue to post their concerns online and are asking for a dedicated car park for the play area to be opened, along with adequate signage to direct parents there and parking restrictions on the road, she added.
There have been numerous “near misses” when cars have parked on the grass shoulder and on the road, funnelling traffic into a single lane, she said.
Concerns have also been raised about the speed of cars travelling along the road and this, residents claim, has led to a pets being killed and injured.
Regeneration company project leader James Child said it had been made aware of the concerns and was working on solutions. “We have been delighted with the community’s use of Hogmoor Inclosure, but that has created an issue with car parking,” he said.
“A temporary car park is open at Hogmoor Inclosure at weekends. when the site is visited most.
This will continue in operation until the permanent car park and community facilities open, we hope, in spring 2018.
“We understand residents’ concerns and we will improve the signage to the temporary car park. Children go back to school next week so we expect the issue to be predominantly a weekend one now, but we will continue to monitor parking.
“We have approached Hampshire County Council about reducing the speed limit to 30mph from 40mph and are hopeful that it will be changed.”
