A Petersfield-area care group has given something back to an inspirational charity which provides activities, events and support for people affected by dementia.
South Downs Care recently handed over more than £3,500 to Dementia Friendly Petersfield as a thank you for their exceptional work around the town.
Most of the proceeds came from summer fetes held at Downs House and Stroud House with Debbie Walker, one third of an activities team which includes Olivia and Grace, wanting readers to know about all the activities, events and support provided by DFP.
She said: “This wonderful organisation donates its own time and money to support people in our local area living with dementia.
“They put on tea dances, choirs and have a memory café, music groups, bowls football, support groups and so much more.”
Debbie added: “Living with dementia is so hard, not only for the person but all their family and so many are affected by it.
“We want to raise awareness and support for Dementia Friendly Petersfield so nobody feels alone.”
Money raised from the summer fetes at Downs House and Stroud House was swelled by a donation from parent organisation South Downs Care to bring the final total to £3,584. The cheque was recently handed to grateful DFP representative Audrey Morton during a special presentation at Petersfield Reformed Church.
Downs House regularly holds events for elderly residents who are lonely and living with dementia.
Future plans included a high tea for people and families affected by dementia and those who feel isolated and want to make new friends.
A “community special” event with a singer, cakes and refreshments takes place at 2pm on the second Friday of the month, with another fete in aid of Dementia Friendly Petersfield due to take place on August 15 from midday.
