ONLOOKERS burst into a spontaneous round of applause as the hearse carrying Sir Ray Tindle’s coffin paused outside the Herald offices in West Street on Thursday.

The mayor of Farnham, Councillor Alan Earwaker, joined Herald staff, business leaders and members of the public in paying tribute to the late-great champion of the local press and community, who died aged 95 last month.

A private, family funeral service was afterwards led by the Rector of Farnham, Revd David Uffindell, at St Andrew’s Church followed by Sir Ray’s committal at West Street Cemetery.

It is expected that a celebration of Sir Ray’s life will take place later this year. Details will be shared when arrangements are made.
