A POLICE officer who nearly died in a violent attack has been named the most courageous Pc in England and Wales.
Pc Alex Stypulkowski was repeatedly stabbed in the head, chest and leg with a screwdriver by a mentally-ill man he was trying to arrest.
The officer was told "you are going to die" after being separated from his colleagues during an operation in 2010.
But the Pc continued to chase the man despite his life-threatening injuries before the attacker was tasered and arrested.
The 26-year-old was honoured last Thursday by winning the top prize at the Police Bravery Awards in London.
