EXPECT colourful scenes in Steep this weekend as an event that’s still flourishing after 102 years is taking place.

The 2023 Steep Flower Show will open to the public at 2pm this Saturday in Bedales School, with prizegiving at 4pm.

The event will include the usual competitions for plants, produce, jams and cakes, while there’s also a sustainability category and a few challenges for flower arrangers.

Some of the classes have an “on this day” historical theme like 50 years of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, the Boston Tea Party and the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

There’s a further treat as a quartet from The National Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform live music.

Entry is £2 for adults, with no charge for under-18s and exhibitors.
